A Bigger Splash is a very personal response to three months spent abroad in Indonesia, away from home. The concept of home to most is a location, but on rare occasions, home is a person. The longer time spent apart, the more one begins to forget about the intimate, small moments shared. Solace was found in observing my partner in Australia completing mundane tasks over video calls. Watching him do things such as wash his hair, eat his lunch, and shave his beard, from five thousand miles away provided new perspectives on our relationship, and created an appreciation in observing ordinary tasks that are usually taken for granted. The subject is depicted in a raw, unfiltered manner – not dressed up nor prepared for a photograph, but natural and truthful, as most beautiful moments occur when no one is watching.
